    Definition

    Americano (noun):

    1. A type of coffee-based beverage which is prepared by diluting an espresso with hot water, giving it a similar strength to, but different flavor from, traditionally brewed coffee.
    2. A coffee beverage made by adding hot water to a shot or two of espresso, which extends the volume of the drink and mellows the flavor.

    Example Sentences

    1. “Every morning, Sarah starts her day with an Americano from her favorite local coffee shop.”
    2. “During his trip to Italy, John discovered that ordering an Americano was the closest he could get to his usual black coffee.”
    3. “She savored the bold flavor of her Americano as she worked on her latest novel in the cozy corner of the café.”

    Notes

    • The Americano is popular worldwide and is a staple in many coffee shops.
    • There is a belief that the term “Americano” is derived from American G.I.s during World War II, who would dilute espresso, which was stronger than the coffee that they were used to, with hot water, to make it more similar to what they were accustomed to.
    • There are variations of the Americano, such as the iced Americano, which is made by pouring espresso over cold water and ice, making it a refreshing alternative for hot weather.
